The Širvintos Marathon, celebrating its 544th anniversary, took place in Širvintos for the first time and garnered immense interest, attracting nearly 600 participants. The marathon became not only a sporting challenge but also a festive occasion, featuring well-known runners such as Piotr Silkin and Aleksandr Sorokin. Every participant who completed their chosen distance received a special medal, and trophies were awarded to the winners. The event also included family and children's runs, inviting everyone to test their strength.

Highlights

  • The first Širvintos marathon featured several running stars: world-class legend Piotr Silkin, Lithuania's ultramarathon record holder Aleksandras Sorokinas, running record holder and Lithuanian champion Ruslan Seitkalijevas, and renowned long-distance runner Mindaugas Garmus.
  • A successfully held marathon can confidently be called international, as it featured participants from 5 countries, including Latvia, Ukraine, Belarus, Thailand, Norway, and Denmark.
  • It is symbolic that at the end of the long marathon events, even the smallest participants of the celebration were invited to test their strength by running shorter distances – a family and children's run took place.
